Following this weeks strike by french oil company Total, 900 staff have been sacked and asked to reapply for their jobs before monday!!

The staff working on Total’s £200m construction project have all received notice that they have just 3 days to apply for the jobs they were doing before the strike action.

In retaliation workers at 17 other power stations and Construction sites are set to take sympathy action over the next few days. Text messages sent to employees read:

“Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Your support is now needed more than ever. If you are supporting our brothers across the country thank you. If you’re not yet out just remember next time it could be you. We must fight this NOW.”

So will this make things worse? Or will this new plan of action force Total into talks with the unions to resolve the current issues. So far Total have refused to speak with trade union Unite, claiming that workers were taking part in an “unofficial, illegal walk-out” that was “repudiated” by both Unite and the GMB unions.

One thing is for sure, this wont help to stop the rise in fuel prices in the UK, with Diesel now well over 105p per litre on average, we all hope for a swift resolution to this conflict, ending in a mutual agreement between Total and staff and hopefully no more job losses.

Good luck to both parties
