Soft drink and drive

Soft drink giant Coca-Cola has teamed up with the Department of Transport and thousands of pubs across the country to reward responsible drivers as part of this year’s Christmas THINK! drink-drive campaign.

It’s always possible to have a good night without drinking, but, let’s face it, around the festive season it’s a bit miserable to have to watch everyone else letting their hair down, with the one, all-important consolation that you will be the one getting everyone home safely at the end of the night.

Now more than 8,000 pubs are offering designated drivers another consolation – free soft drinks.

Trading director for Coca-Cola, Dave McNulty, said: “It’s a proven footfall driver and promotes a longer, more social stay for those not drinking alcohol. It’s important to continue to reward those who take their road safety responsibilities seriously without compromising the fun they can have at Christmas.”

The Coca-Cola Designated Driver campaign will run from 9 December to 2 January. This campaign is now in its third year, and organisations supporting it in 2010 include the Department of Transport, the British Beer & Pub Association, Road Safety GB, the RAC and the National Union of Students.

We reckon the one soft drink the designated driver needs to buy to be eligible for the second free one should be paid for by his or her boozing companions as a thank you! What do you think?
