Thank goodness, the nice long Bank Holiday weekend is here!  What a relief, we get to put our feet up and…

…get stuck in traffic. In the rain. During fuel price rises.  Great…

The expectations of a “perfect storm” of travel mayhem and predictions of sharp rises in petrol pump prices over the last couple of weeks has really worked to put a dampener on the much-anticipated August Bank Holiday, that’s even before the forecast rain arrives!

With millions of drivers set to take to the roads this weekend – making it the busiest so far this year – it’s not difficult to start seeing the Bank Holiday as a chore rather than the much-deserved break it should be.

According to a poll by insurance provider esure, around 30 million people are expected to take a car journey of more than one hour, and one in five to embark on a journey taking over four hours this weekend. Major events such as the Leeds and Reading music festivals, as well as Creamfields, are also expected to exacerbate Bank Holiday traffic in those areas.

The word is – congestion, with the usual motley crew identified as potential hotspots including the A1 in Yorkshire, the M6 in the Midlands and North West, and the entire M25.  With major repair work also scheduled on rail
