Manufacturers eye up iPhone apps

The Apple iPhone continues to attract phenomenal sales, and car manufacturers have become the latest companies to market their wares and entertain their customers in the form of an app.

Jaguar and Volkswagen have each launched an app in the past week complete with unique features tailored to their clients’ needs and interests.

Jaguar has launched ‘Driven Intelligence’ for owners of its XF and XJ models. This offers news, cricket updates, business data and features, as well as Jaguar videos and photo galleries. Users can also create their own stocks and shares portfolio.

Meanwhile, the Golf GTI Essential Buyer’s Guide covers Volkswagen Golf GTIs built between 1976 and 1992, and features buying tips, specifications and information on running costs.

The guide, which includes audio sections, highlights such models as the Mk1 GTI hatch and cabriolet, the Mk2 Rally and supercharged G60.

Both apps are available from the iTunes App Store.

You’d think these cars were pretty and desirable enough without having an alarmingly addictive and fun little app to go with them.  Maybe this is just the cherry on the cake.
